Skills2Work - International Organisaton for Migration (the Netherlands)

Getting a job is vital for the integration of beneficiaries of international protection. IOM the Netherlands together with partners and IOM offices in other European countries launched the Skills2Work project to improve access of beneficiaries, service providers and employers to specific information and services relating to skills recognition.

The International Organization for Migration, founded in 1951, is the global lead agency on migration. IOM provides expert advice, research, technical cooperation and operational assistance to States, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders. IOM assists States to facilitate the integration of migrants in their new environment, based on the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society.

The project has a European dimension; through cooperation with external organisations and IOM offices in Belgium, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and the United Kingdom.

IOM and its partners examine current best practices and mechanisms used in the field of recognition and validation of knowledge and skills. Successful initiatives are identified, both at EU level and within national contexts of the participating EU Member States.

Objectives Skills2Work:

  • Establishment of a European network of experts, communities, interest groups, employers and academics
  • A research publication on best practices and mechanisms for validation and recognition of skills and competences.
  • A practical handbook with guidelines to support initiatives on the areas of validation and recognition of skills.
  • FromSkills2Work.eu – an interactive directory of good practices across Europe, with information for employers, service providers and refugees about working in Europe.
